Tale Booklet

There is a story that I wrote of which a small part is a tale of a dragon and a fox. Now I’ve decided to design a small booklet for just the tale itself.

The Basic Design

Most of it is very straightforward because it’s a rather short story with five chapters, each consisting of less than two A5 pages. Since it is such a small amount of chapters, I was able to number them with roman numerals. The main font is a simple Garamond whereas the header was supposed to have a more unique and old look to it.

Apart from the line between the header and the chapter numer there really isn’t anything going on. A rather simple and minimal approach to focus on what matters: the tale.

The Cover Image

The most interesting part here is the cover image. I used AI to generate a few basic images. These were then thrown into Photoshop and combined in the way I wanted. For example, the dragon and the fox I ended up using are each from different generated images. After that, I drew a very rough sketch on top, which I then used as a base for the AI to generate a new image. And finally, the resulting image of that is what I ended up drawing over once more with a simple black color and a stippling brush, because it seems to me that AI cannot handle stippling yet very well. And lastly coloring it, which has almost no connection anymore to the AI generated images.
